SAP Reorganizes Product Leadership to Accelerate AI Strategy

SAP has implemented major changes to its product and engineering leadership structure, effective July 1, 2026. The reorganization is a strategic move to consolidate the Business AI Platform, CTO functions, and the Autonomous Suite under new leadership, with the goal of accelerating SAP's comprehensive AI strategy.

A key change involves the creation of a new board area for the Business AI Platform and CTO organization, now led by SAP Extended Board Member Philipp Herzig. This new structure brings together teams responsible for Data and Analytics, Business Transformation Management, Platform and AI, and parts of the former SAP Business Technology Platform organization, providing a more explicit leadership center for AI architecture and platform consistency.

Additionally, the Partner Ecosystem Success Unit, led by Karl Fahrbach, will transition from Strategy and Operations into the Customer Value Group, which is overseen by Chief Customer Officer Thomas Saueressig. This shift aims to align partner engagement more closely with customer value and success.

SAP CEO Christian Klein is taking direct responsibility for many of the product and engineering teams, with the exception of industrial AI, which will be managed by COO Sebastian Steinhäuser. This move underscores SAP's commitment to embedding AI deeply across its cloud ERP roadmap and ensuring integrated, end-to-end solutions.

The reorganization follows earlier commercial shifts and the announcement that Muhammad Alam, Head of Product & Engineering, would not renew his contract in 2027. These changes are designed to align product development, customer success, and commercialization around a clearer AI execution model, crucial for delivering on the promise of the Autonomous Enterprise.
